Population Council Kenya (PC Kenya) advances research-driven, scalable solutions that strengthen programming and inform policies for sustainable development. Our work focuses on two core areas:

Climate Change and Gender
Climate change does not affect everyone in the same way. Gender shapes who is exposed to climate shocks, who bears their costs, and who is able to adapt.
Population Council Kenya examines the intersections of gender equality and climate change, addressing critical evidence gaps and generating insights that can strengthen policy, programmes and practice. Our research looks at how climate and environmental risks affect vulnerable populations and health systems, and evaluates the interventions that build resilience for women, girls and their communities.

Empowering Young People to Thrive
Young people are at the centre of Africa’s future. Yet their ability to thrive is shaped by the opportunities, systems and environments around them.
Population Council Kenya generates evidence to better understand the realities young people face and what works to improve their wellbeing and opportunities. Our research examines the barriers that can limit their potential, particularly among young people in underserved settings, while identifying approaches that strengthen resilience, equity and pathways to a better future. Central to this work is meaningful youth engagement. We seek to ensure that young people’s lived experiences and perspectives inform the research process and the development of solutions that affect their lives. Through this work, we generate evidence that can inform policies, strengthen programmes and support environments in which young people can thrive.

Expanding Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)
Population Council Kenya advances sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) by generating and applying evidence to address gaps in access, quality, and equity.
Our work highlights critical challenges in maternal health, contraceptive access, HIV prevention, gender-based violence, and reproductive autonomy, particularly among women, girls, and young people. We produce policy-relevant evidence that strengthens service delivery approaches to support more responsive, rights-based interventions. These efforts contribute to a more inclusive and effective SRHR programming across diverse settings.
