Population Council Kenya advances sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) by generating and applying evidence to address gaps in access, quality, and equity.
Our work highlights critical challenges in maternal health, contraceptive access, HIV prevention, gender-based violence, and reproductive autonomy, particularly among women, girls, and young people. We produce policy-relevant evidence that strengthens service delivery approaches to support more responsive, rights-based interventions. These efforts contribute to a more inclusive and effective SRHR programming across diverse settings.
Health & Health Systems ResponsivenessResponsive health systems are critical to ensuring that quality care reaches those who need it most. Research in this area examines health system bottlenecks and identifies practical solutions to improve access, quality and responsiveness, alongside inclusive service delivery and sustainable financing approaches for underserved and vulnerable populations.
Sexual & Reproductive HealthEquitable access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services is central to better health and wellbeing. This area of research focuses on integrated, demand-driven models of care and effective approaches to expanding access, improving immunization uptake, and strengthening maternal and newborn health outcomes, particularly in underserved settings.
Sexual & Gender-Based ViolenceEvidence is essential to understanding what works to prevent violence and strengthen responses for those affected. Research on sexual and gender-based violence examines effective and context-responsive approaches to prevention and response, including efforts to address female genital mutilation, while providing evidence to strengthen programmes and inform policy.
NutritionBetter nutrition begins with understanding what works across different people, places and systems. Our research explores scalable, multisectoral approaches to improving nutrition outcomes for children and pregnant and lactating women, with particular attention to rural and urban-poor settings.
