Adolescent girls in a safe-space session

Adolescent Girls Empowerment Program (AGEP)

A safe-space model giving adolescent girls mentorship, health knowledge, and financial capability — rigorously evaluated to learn what lasts.

Overview

AGEP is built on a simple premise: give an adolescent girl a mentor, a peer group, and a room of her own once a week, and you change the odds she faces. The program delivered safe spaces across three northern counties, pairing health and life-skills content with savings and financial capability.

Just as important as the model was the evaluation around it — a rigorous look at which components actually shifted outcomes, so future investment backs what works.

Objectives

  • 01Expand adolescent girls’ health knowledge and agency.
  • 02Build financial capability through savings groups.
  • 03Evaluate which program components drive lasting change.

Our approach

Weekly mentor-led safe spaces anchored the model, wrapped in a study design that could separate the effect of each component. The result is not just a program that reached thousands of girls but evidence about why it worked.
